Rambo TV Series In Development; Could Sylvester Stallone Return To Star?

I think that Sylvester Stallone has proven that, even at the ripe age of 67, he still has a lot of action left in him. Not only with The Expendables, but with most of his movies as of late. Even the recent Rambo sequel was pretty damn good.

Well, it appears as if Rambo 4 might not have been the last we've seen of the iconic Stallone character either. While rumors of a fifth film in the series have been around since the last movie in 2008, it appears as if the character might be heading to the small screen instead.

THR is reporting that Entertainment One and Nu Image are teaming up to shop a television series based on the Vietnam vet, and that, surprisingly, Sly himself could be attached to reprise the role. So far, it's more likely that he'll be more involved in the creative process, which makes sense, but it's too early to say what kind of format the show will employ.

Personally, I think there might be more material in doing a prequel with a younger Rambo, and they could still use Sly in flash forwards, maybe in telling the stories of his earlier days. There's also the concern that Sly might be "above" television, and while a lot of stars are moving to the smaller screen these days, there's still something novel about the latest Stallone release in theaters, at least for me, and doing a series might hurt that "prestige" (if you want to call it that). A cameo or smaller role wouldn't be a big deal, but I'm not sure what Stallone could do, or if he'd even want to do in a full-time leading role.

In any case, it's certainly too early to say if this will even produce anything, and Stallone himself hasn't yet exclaimed anything on his perma-caps locked Twitter feed, so we'll keep an eye on this story as it develops.

Next up, you'll be able to see Stallone opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the fantastic-looking Escape Plan, in Grudge Match where he plays a retired boxer not named Rocky against another retired boxer in Robert De Niro not named Jake La Motta either, and then next year with Arnie yet again in The Expendables 3, which just revealed its full cast and plot details, so check that out as well.
