Bask In The Glory Of 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' Season 11's Episode Titles

One of the best parts of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is how the cold open leads into the title card of the episode and the theme song. The Gang is hanging out, doing something ridiculous, until something even more ridiculous happens, and that’s what the premise of the episode.

A big part of the fun is figuring out how they might get to a particular episode title or concept that may seem unusual at a glance, or the anticipation to The Gang setting up their latest Lethal Weapon movie, or how it announces the return of a favorite character or gag from the show.

Some people are purists and prefer to experience the episode titles in the show themselves. Some of us simply can’t wait until the show is slated to return for its unprecedented eleventh season this coming January. Lucky for us, these things tend to be released early, and the titles for season 11 were all made available on IMDB this week.

Here they are in all their glory and completely out of context:

Quote:

The Gang Hits the Slopes
Being Frank
Charlie Catches a Leprechaun
Frank Falls Out the Window
Chardee MacDennis 2: Electric Boogaloo
Dee Made a Smut Film
The Gang Goes to Hell
The Gang Goes to Hell: Part Two
The Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Day Massacre Defense
Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs

At a glance, a couple will certainly seem familiar, “The Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Day Massacre Defense” is clearly a sequel to the fantastic season 8 episode of (almost) the same name. I’m guessing The Gang will have to answer for what happened in that episode, which is rare considering this is a show where there are practically no consequences for the main characters ever. There’s also a sequel to Chardee MacDennis from season 7, which speaks for itself if you know anything about this show. Even the title is sort of meta in how sequels never live up to their predecessors, which is totally a perfect Sunny-like thing to do. And the finale, “Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs”, is peculiarly similar to the Season 9 episode “Mac and Dennis Buy a Timeshare”, which you might remember for being the one where frank gets stuck in a playground in his underwear. It’s also interesting to note that “The Gang Goes to Hell” will be the first two parter since the high school reunion episodes in season 7.

But as exciting as followups and sequels are, I’m most excited for the absurd, context-less titles like “Charlie Catches a Leprephaun” or “Frank Falls out the Window”, which sound almost simple and quaint but you know are the type of episodes that will easily get out of control.

The one I’m absolutely most anticipating though? “Being Frank”. It has the kind of title that reminds me of “Charlie Work” last year, which may be one of the best episodes they’ve ever done and which garnered a perfect 10 score from me. Or it could be a shot-for-shot remake of Being John Malkovich with Frank. Either way, I’m excited for it.

This may sound odd, but I’m glad season 11 isn’t premiering until January. That gives us plenty of time to forget these titles so we can experience them properly when the show rolls around. Until then, feel free to speculate and be completely wrong about them.
