Great Odin's Raven! Will Ferrell Announces Anchorman and Step Brothers Sequels
By the beard of Zeus, it's finally happening!
After years of negotiations, budgeting issues and other problems, Paramount Pictures and Ron Burgundy have finally worked out a deal to make a sequel to the greatest film ever made, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy". The original film was produced by DreamWorks, but Paramount took over the rights for the film a little while ago.
It has been confirmed that Will Ferrell will return to portray the title role, with Steve Carell and Paul Rudd co-starring, along with David Koechner, the final member of the Action News Team. No word on whether Christina Applegate will return as well, but you have to think that she and other Anchorman cameos and stars such as Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson and Ben Stiller will return one way or another.
Ron Burgundy himself dropped by the set of Conan to announce the movie and play some flute with the band:
No word on when Anchorman 2 will be in theaters or even film, but we do know that Judd Apatow will produce, and Adam McKay will direct and write the film along with Ferrell.
This comes on the heels of Ferrell announcing a sequel to "Step Brothers" as well, due to film later this year with John C. Reilly, also written and directed by Adam McKay.
"It's just like the movie that you wouldn't choose, necessarily," Ferrell said. "I mean, [a] Talladega Nights [sequel] makes a lot of sense on paper. Anchorman is kind of written. Step Brothers it's crazy how it's grown and grown and grown, now that it's been out there in the world. I always get more Step Brothers references from college kids than I get anything else… so we're loosening up to the thought of doing something and trying to make a sequel feel original."
Needless to say, this news makes March the greatest month of my life. We'll be waiting anxiously for both films to hit theaters.
