First Glimpse At The Lizard In "The Amazing Spider-Man", In All His Naked Glory

So, it turns out that next year's "Amazing Spider-Man" reboot is going to some some pretty racy nudity. Sorry folks, it won't be Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy (at least, we don't think).

Instead, it seems as if we might get a facefull of crotch from the film's main villain, The Lizard (known before his transformation as Dr. Curt Conners), played by Rhys Ifans (the bad guy from Little Nicky. Yes, that's what you'll remember him from).

Yes, comic book fans always relish this moment, the first reveal (official or not) of a big name villain from an upcoming movie adaptation. Fortunately, Russian website Spidermedia.ru has delivered, releasing an unofficial and unconfirmed concept art mock up for the upcoming Spidey villain, and we have to say it looks pretty intriguing.

As you can probably tell, the movie version of The Lizard doesn't exactly look like what we're used to in the comics (although he does kind of look like the character in earlier comics), but there could be a perfectly good explanation for that. In this artwork, the character has a human-shaped face, seemingly less scaling and smaller claws, and is probably the size of a human, versus the bigger, full-fledged lizard form.

But it has already been speculated that Dr. Connors will go through multiple transformations in the film, so this could just be an intermediary stage. Still, we kind of dig the look, minus the lack of the signature lab coat and clothing we're used to seeing the character donning. It gives The Lizard a more human feel, and that fits along with what Rhys Ifans said about the character in a recent interview:

Quote:

“The majority of comic book villains are pure evil, but Curt Connors is an exception. Curt Connors is a good man who initially wants to save the world but he gets hungry and greedy and reckless and he pays the price for that.”

We always had the Lizard high up on our list of wanted Spidey villains in the original trilogy, and I think we can very well be happy now that we're getting him. Rhys Ifans is a good actor, and the people at Sony seem to be handling the character fairly well.

While this is the first "full" look we've gotten at the Lizard, it isn't the first glimpse we've gotten of the character. Earlier this week, we got to see what the character would look like on a pez dispenser, as well as a look at a strange costume probably meant to act as a green screen.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" is due in theaters July 3, 2012, and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and of course the aforementioned Rhys Ifans, and is directed by Marc Webb.
