Anne Hathaway's Catwoman Outfit in The Dark Knight Rises Revealed

A little while ago, we brought you the first images of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. Yesterday, we found out what Henry Cavill will look like as Superman, and we've seen what Batman's new nemesis, Bane, will look like, thanks to some leaked photos.

Warner Bros. continues to dominate this week's movie headlines, as they've just released the first official look at Anne Hathaway as Catwoman:

The image definitely leaves a lot to be discusses among fans and pundits, but the first thing that should be mentioned is that it pretty much squashes any discussion or rumor that Hathaway would be playing Selina Kyle, without donning the Catwoman outfit. It also reinforces the rumors that the Catwoman outfit would be more modern and practical, as opposed to the "sexier" look we're used to with the character.

What obviously catches our attention the most is the fact that she's wearing an unusual pair of high-tech goggles. This will of course catch the ire of fans, but it makes sense that a thief in today's modern age would have access to some high tech equipment, with such perks as night vision, infra red, etc. Or, they could just be in relation to the fact that she's riding the Bat-pod for some reason. In any case, one wouldn't expect her to be wearing them for the entirety of the film.

Moreover, the costume seems relatively bland or lacking in features. It seems like a simple leather jumpsuit. A leaked photo of what could be a stunt double shows this off a little better, in what appears to be a prison-break scene -- which, without delving into too many spoilers, could explain a lot about the film's potential plot, if it does follow a recent Bane comic book storyline. It seems like Nolan is definitely trying to more towards the cat burglar aspect of Selina Kyle's character.

And by the way, why the hell is everyone riding around in Batman's vehicles? We have Selina Kyle on the bat-pod and Bane on the tumbler. Again, no spoilers, but it seems pretty obvious where the story for the film is heading, but still. Bruce Wayne isn't going to be happy about all of this.

Really, anything else we say about her costume would just be speculation. But all these conveniently placed releases and leaks from the Dark Knight Rises set seem to reinforce a lot of speculation about where the plot of the film could be headed, and that Nolan will once again continue his "realistic" tone.

But seeing "Catwoman" without any cat-like features, even in a single still image where she's clearly out of her cat-burgling element, does seem a little weird. Nolan, has, however, been known to show the "stages" of his characters becoming their costumed counterparts, with the exception of the Joker of course. Remember the ski mask-donning Bruce Wayne from Batman begins? Or seeing Harvey Dent get half his face burned off? I would imagine Selina Kyle will not look exactly like that image at the beginning of the film, nor at the end of the film.

That said, we're still a year away from the release of the film, and it's pretty obvious that we're all a little starved for rumors and news on the film. I suggest we save our full judgement of the costume until we find out why she's using the bat-pod, what's up with those goggles and until we see her in an actual trailer for the film.

Two seemingly major people left out in all this TDKR fuss seem to be the somewhat mysterious characters played by Inception alumni Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon Levitt. Maybe we'll get reveals for them soon.
