Tony Hawk HD Soundtrack Makes Us Feel Old and Nostalgic

Maybe one of the most exciting things about the HD re-release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, due to hit PSN and XBLA (sans shitty skateboard peripherals) in June, was to see what songs from the first two games were going to make the soundtrack.

While the games themselves may not be dated, but in the eyes of many, the music probably is. I grew up with a lot of the songs in the first few games, but that should probably only tell you that I'm no longer in touch with what's hip with kids these days. Punk and ska are pretty much dead, so if I sing Goldfinger's "Superman" around teenagers, most of them probably won't know what I'm talking about, and wondering why this guy with gray hairs in his beard is singing to them.

Still, there really isn't a song more representative of Tony Hawk than that, so you'll be glad to know it did make the new soundtrack. Other dated punk bands on there are Lagwagon, Millencolin and Bad Religion, along with metal acts Consumed, Powerman 5000 and Anthrax.

Of course, it was expected that not all the songs would return, due to licensing and development issues, but it's a little unfortunate we won't get to play the likes of "Euro-Barge" by the Vandals, "New Girl" by the Suicide Machines, and maybe worst of all, "Police Truck" by the Dead Kennedys. Hell, I think I might even miss the Papa Roach song from the second game!

I don't know any of the new songs or acts (other than Trent Reznor and El-P), so I'm going to stop short of lamenting any further about my age and just give you the full soundtrack, courtesy of Sound and Vision, which also has an interview with the game's producer, Ken Overbey:

I WILL miss the Papa Roach song, but I'm still REALLY over-joyed about it. Especially May 16, which was my favourite of THPS2 due to May 16th being my birthday, so they better make sure we can choose the song for every run, because I promise to ONLY listen to Superman and May 16 just like I used to, while I play the Hangar course over and over since it was my favourite.

I'm just gonna mute it and listen to "New Girl" by Suicide Machines on my iphone lol. That was my go to song for the Mall. Superman was the city level.

Goldfinger's there. I'm satisfied.
